Are you one of those who have a closet
full of clothes but nothing to wear? If yes, then this article is meant for.
It’s been years since I stood in front of my closet full of clothes, shoes, and
accessories, feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. I was a person
who used to fill my wardrobe with too many unnecessary attire as a lover of
shopping.
This is not wrong if I say that I have
been a person who has many decluttered living including an overloaded wardrobe.
I am pretty sure, it`s time to go somewhere, and here you are once again
standing in front of your closet frustrated as hell that you have a ton of clothes
and no awesome outfits am I right?
However, a cluttered closet can make
getting dressed a stressful and time-consuming task. If you find yourself in
this situation, it`s time to take action and declutter your closet. In this
blog post, I am going to walk you through some practical steps to help you
regain control over your wardrobe and create a more organized and functional
closet space.
Understand the Declutter
of Your Life
All you need to take start by
understanding the decluttering of your life and here you are going to begin
with your closet right? First, you need to think about all the money you`ve
spent on pieces that are still hanging in your closet, and a shameful thing is they
are hanging with price tags! Oh sounds bad why? Because you have nothing to
wear them with and you want to cry. Well, don’t be overwhelmed, I am quite sure
that you`re missing a shopping and buying strategy. Yes, you absolutely need a
strategy for shopping and buying, because if you don`t have one, you end up
with a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. So always try to be mindful
when it comes to shopping for an outfit whether for a special occasion or even
for casual. Remember, try to look out your wardrobe before going shopping, and
if you have enough to choose your favorite one change your mind regarding
shopping.
Try to Set Clear
Goals
This is too important to set clear goals
even before you dive into decluttering. I start form asking myself why I want
to declutter my closet. So you can also try to see better outcomes, start
asking yourself are you looking to create more space, simplify your morning
routine, or just feel more in control of your belongings? When you find the
answers having a clear purpose will motivate you throughout the process.
Assessing your
Current Wardrobe is the Key
This is a great idea to assess your
current wardrobe so try to be mindful instead of overwhelming. You can start by
taking everything out of your closet and laying it all out so you can see what
you have. This step is crucial because it allows you to evaluate your current
wardrobe objectively.
Do you want to know how I assessed my
wardrobe? I am pretty sure you’d love to know how I did. I asked myself these
questions
·
Do I wear this item regularly?
·
Does it fit me well?
·
Is it in good condition?
·
Does it make me feel confident and
comfortable?
The answers and strategy to these
questions are here, if your answers are mostly no then sort your clothing into
three piles:
·
Keep them (try to wear)
·
Donate (humbly)
·
Sell (a good Idea)
·
Discard (mindful strategy)
Be ruthless and honest with yourself. If
you haven`t worn something in over a year, it`s time to let it go right?
Mindful Strategy
for Unwanted Items
All you need to do is pay heed to a
mindful strategy once you`ve sorted your clothes. Try to decide what to do with
the items you no longer want. In my opinion, considering donating all of your
unwanted items is a mindful strategy. Try to find a local charity or sell them
online through platforms. Always remember that one person`s unwanted item could
be another`s treasure.
Go for Organizing
your Keep Pile
Have you determined what to keep? If yes,
then it`s time to organize your closet effectively. Here I want to give you some
key tips that will help you:
·
Try to find some quality hangers, they only
protect your clothes but also make your closet look more visually appealing.
Consider using slim line hangers to maximize space that will set your wardrobe.
·
Organize your clothes by type like shirts,
pants, and dresses, and then further categorize through color or season. This
makes it easier to find what you need quickly.
·
Consider adding shelves, drawers, or
storage bins to your closet to keep accessories, shoes, and other items neatly
organized.
·
Store off-season clothing in bins or
vacuum-sealed bags to free up space in your closet and make it easier to access
the clothes you need.
Keep Maintaining
Regularly
Always remember, that decluttering isn`t a
one-time task, but it`s an ongoing process. So make it a habit to regularly
assess your closet and remove items you no longer wear or need. As you acquire
new items, follow the one-in-one-out rule for every new item you bring in, and let
go of an old one to maintain a clutter-free closet like I do.
A cluttered closet can lead to stress and
confusion, but with some dedication and the right approach, you can regain
control and create a more organized and functional space. Remember that decluttering
your closet is not just about getting rid of things; it`s about making room for
the items that truly bring you joy and serve a purpose in your life. So, take a
deep breath, follow these steps, and declutter your way to a happier, more
manageable wardrobe.
I am quite sure, your future self will thank you for it!
